Second Friday Practice Session Report - Results

The gap Ferrari had in the first session to the other top team decreased slightly but rather than Montoya or Ralf, it was Kimi Raikkonen who was the closest to the Ferrari this session. Of course it was Michael Schumacher who ended up fastest and just over 0.2 seconds away from the Pole time of last year. Rubens Barrichello managed to recover from his lack of running in the morning and set the second fastest time just 0.225 seconds behind Michael and it was Kimi Raikkonen who was the only driver close to the Ferraris, that is if you consider 0.583 seconds close.
Eddie Irvine continued to show the strength of the Jaguar here setting the 4th fastest time but over a second off the pace (still a second behind a Ferrari for a Jaguar is a major achievement). Juan Pablo Montoya only managed 5th fastest after improving just marginally over his time from the morning while Mika Salo put the Toyota in 6th place and just under 1.5 seconds off the pace.
Ralf Schumacher was 7th after failing to improve on his time while Pedro de la Rosa was 8th ahead of Jarno Trulli and Jenson Button.

Once again the Michelins look strong with 8 out of the top 10 runners on Michelin rubber however the top 2 are Bridgestone runners!

David Coulthard had an off into the gravel and couldn't recover while Alex Yoong had a spin and stalled his car on the track. Several other drivers had offs but managed to recover.

Rubens Barrichello and Jarno Trulli covered the most number of laps this session with 27 laps each while David Coulthard only managed 3 laps, Allan McNish only did 10 and Alex Yoong only covered 13 laps.

Overall Jarno Trulli covered the most number of laps with 44 followed by Michael Schumacher with 43 while David Coulthard did the least number of laps with 19 followed by Allan McNish with 23 laps.

Of course these are practice times and could be very misleading as the fuel loads vary as the teams go through their different programmes.
