Second Friday Practice Session Report - Results

David Coulthard managed to set the fastest time of the day just 0.072 seconds ahead of his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen with Michael Schumacher in 3rd 0.215 seconds behind.
Rubens Barrichello was 4th ahead of Ralf Schumacher and Eddie Irvine.

Only the top 3 are close with Barrichello over 0.7 seconds off the pace. Ralf Schumacher was almost 0.95 seconds off the pace while his team-mate Montoya was in 10th and almost 1.25 seconds off the pace.

A number of drivers improved dramatically during the second half of the session indicating that they took some fuel out. Both Toyotas and Jaguars improved dramatically and both teams have done the same in the past.

The Michelin tyres continued to have an edge over the Bridgestone runners with the top 11 runners running Michelins (except for Ferrari in 3rd and 4th).

Alex Yoong managed to set a time inside the 107% mark which must be a relief for him. Still with the times expected to drop further tomorrow, it will be a tough session for him.

Most if not all the drivers had a spin or an off during the session and whilst most recovered, Trulli got his car stuck into the gravel on his first flyer losing much needed time.
Mika Salo after losing a lot of time during the first session, ended his session early as he suffered what appeared to be an engine failure.

Michael Schumacher covered the most number of laps this session with 31 followed by Felipe Massa with 28. Jarno Trulli only managed 2 laps while Ralf Schumacher only did 16 and Juan Pablo Montoya only did 17 laps.
Overall Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa covered 50 laps each while Jarno Trulli only managed 18 laps and Mika Salo covered 28 laps.

The Arrows team for the second Grand Prix event in a row failed to send either of their cars out today. The team continues to look for ways to get out of the financial crisis that is threatening the team into collapse.

While it is encouraging to see the McLarens at the top, they have shown in the past this season to look strong in practice but fail to improve by much in Qualifying contrary to Williams whose times in practice makes you think they are struggling then in qualifying they go out and take the front row.
Michael Schumacher was half a second ahead of his team-mate and surprisingly covered the most number of laps. This usually indicates that he is not too happy with his set-up. His time could be affected by a somewhat lighter fuel load than normal though.
Lets hope there will be more of a balance this weekend and see the top 3 teams fight it out.
