Second Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

It appears that the stage is set for another fascinating duel between Michael Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya this afternoon in their fight for Pole position. This session they were the only 2 to set lap times under the 1:14 mark and as both drivers would have yet a bit more in reserve we might see a Pole time in the high 1:12's.

Rubens Barrichello gave himself a major setback as he crashed out of the session losing crucial time ahead of the qualifying session. Kimi Raikkonen managed to improve and move back into 4th ahead of Ralf Schumacher and David Coulthard.
The Sauber team-mates of Massa and Heidfeld were very close behind in 7th and 8th white Villeneuve managed 9th and the fastest Honda runner ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella.

Apart from Barrichello, there were no major incidents during the session. Jarno Trulli and Felipe Massa spun while Eddie Irvine stopped on the track towards the end of the session.

Heinz Harald Frentzen covered the most number of laps with 25 followed by Eddie Irvine with 22 and Takuma Sato with 21. Rubens Barrichello only managed 6 laps while Pedro de la Rosa only did 8 and Olivier Panis covered 10. All other drivers covered between 12 and 20 laps.
Overall, it was Takuma Sato who covered the most number of laps during both practice sessions with 39 laps followed by Heinz Harald Frentzen with 36.

Michael and Juan Pablo are in a league of their own while Barrichello, Ralf and Raikkonen look like fighting for the second row on the grid. One of the Saubers could take a place on the 3rd row of the grid while it will be interesting to see how the improved BAR will do against the Jordan of Giancarlo Fisichella. It is worth keeping an eye on Frentzen as well.

Qualifying starts at 1:00 PM local time. Our coverage will start at 12:45 PM local time.
