Second Friday Practice Session Report - Results

As the track temperatures rose and more rubber was laid on the track, the Michelin runners dominated this session in total contrast to the first session.

David Coulthard managed to set the fastest time of the session with a stunning time of 1:15.407. Juan Pablo Montoya was second while Michael Schumacher only managed 3rd after dominating most of the morning session. Kimi Raikkonen was 4th ahead of Ralf Schumacher and a surprise Mika Salo in 6th.
Olivier Panis managed to set the 7th fastest time continuing to show good signs from the new BAR package while Rubens Barrichello struggled throughout this session only managing 8th fastest and over a second off the pace.
Villeneuve was in 9th and Frentzen managed an impressive 10th in the Cosworth powered Arrows.

There were no major incidents throughout the session however Jarno Trulli stopped on the track early robbing him of valuable running time. A number of driver went into harmless spins and recovered.

Alex Yoong covered the most number of laps with 31 followed by Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button with 27 laps each. Jarno Trulli only managed 3 laps while Allan McNish just managed 9 and Mark Webber 13 laps. All other drivers covered between 16 and 25 laps.

Overall it was Yoong who covered the most number of laps today with 56 followed by Felipe Massa with 54. This is the first time for both these drivers on this track.

So after two contrasting sessions between the Bridgestone runners and the Michelin ones, it will be very interesting to see how they will do in the all important qualifying session.
