Championship Qualifying Session Report - ResultsRubens Barrichello takes pole position only five thousands of a second ahead of his team-mate Michael Schumacher with Ralf Schumacher in third just under half a second behind Barrichello. Coulthard (in fourth) shares the second row with Ralf in the first of the McLarens less than two tenths of a second slower than Ralf Schumacher in the Williams. Raikkonen is a further seven tenths of a second behind Coulthard and Montoya who shares the third row with him is another tenth further back. Trulli is in 7th place followed by Fisichella, Massa, Heidfeld and Button. All of the best times were set in the first 25 minutes of the session (of which 6 minutes were spent in the pits under the red flag) before the rain set in for the duration of the session. Several drivers did not get a clear run in the early, dry, period, most notably Montoya who will be starting from 6th while his team-mate Ralf Schumacher is in third. Taking into account that Ferrari, more specifically Barrichello, managed to time their run best it is encouraging to see the first four places on the grid separated by only six tenths of a second. Even better when we see that there is a Williams and a McLaren in the first four with the two Ferraris. Tomorrows racing could be very close. After the excitement of the first 25 minutes it became very quiet while almost all cars waited for the rain to ease. Eventually, towards the end of the session, some teams decided to use the balance of the session to get some wet track experience. Of course none of the times were anywhere near qualifying times. Barrichello was barely more than a second faster than last year's pole position. As free practice sessions indicated that the cars were significantly more than a second faster this year we must assume that all drivers could have been much faster if the weather held out. Click
