Warm-up Session Report - Results

Rubens Barrichello sets the fastest time of the session ahead of team-mate Michael Schumacher. The 2 were in a league of their own again as the low temperatures didn't help the Michelin runners to come close. Felipe Massa was 3rd over 0.6 seconds behind with Frentzen, Heidfeld and Bernoldi making the top 6.
David Coulthard was in 7th and the best Michelin runner while Jacques Villeneuve may have found the set-up he was after setting the 8th fastest time.
Ralf Schumacher who starts from second was 14th fastest while Juan Pablo Montoya who starts from 4th was 18th fastest. They must be praying for warm weather this afternoon.

If the race was run under similar conditions to the Warm-up session, Ferrari would probably lap the entire field and all the Bridgestone runners would finish ahead of the best Michelin runner. It appears as though Michelin have designed their tyre to optimally operate in the afternoon provided the sun is shining.

The session didn't have any major incidents although several drivers went off but soon rejoined the track.

Jacques Villeneuve covered the most number of laps with 20 followed by Mika Salo with 19 and Giancarlo Fisichella and David Coulthard each with 18 laps. Jarno Trulli and Juan Pablo Montoya covered the least number of laps with 10 laps each. All other drivers covered between 12 and 17 laps.

Last year a number of cars opted for a two stop strategy and it looks as if some of the drivers will go for that strategy as well this year.

Race starts at 2:00 PM local time. Our coverage starts at 1:30 PM local time.
