Reports & Results from other sessions

Second Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Michael Schumacher dominated the second session with a stunning performance that left David Coulthard over half a second behind in 2nd place. Mika Hakkinen finished 1/10th of a second behind Coulthard. Rubens Barrichello managed to get closer to the McLarens but stopped on the track during the session losing valuable time. He was 4th followed by the Sauber pair of Nick Heidfeld and Kimi Raikkonen who were both under a second off the pace. So we have only 3 teams in the top 6!

Olivier Panis managed 7th fastest leading the Honda runners and ahead of the BMW powered Williams cars which is surprising given that BAR have been struggling with problems all weekend. Ralf Schumacher, Jarno Trulli and Pedro de la Rosa make the top 10.

Jacques Villeneuve finally managed to put a few laps before qualifying covering 20 laps and finishing 11th while Juan Pablo Montoya continued to have problems finishing 14th fastest.

A number of drivers had problems including Barrichello, Montoya and Alesi while Ricardo Zonta (replacing Frentzen) spun into the gravel after completing just 5 laps in this session and Mika Hakkinen spun into the gravel on his final lap after missing his braking point.

Jacques Villeneuve and Jenson Button covered the most number of laps with 20 each followed Coulthard, Hakkinen and Fisichella with 18 laps each. Zonta only managed 5 laps while Barrichello only managed 6. Trulli did 8 laps after spinning during the session and Burti only did 9 laps. Most other drivers covered between 10 and 17 laps.
Michael Schumacher covered the most number of laps for both sessions with 35 followed by David Coulthard with 33. Montoya covered the least with 19 laps.

So we head into qualifying with a fight between the 2 McLaren's and Michael Schumacher and Michael appears at this stage to have an edge. The fight behind them will be very close and fascinating to watch as Williams, Sauber, Jordan, BAR and Jaguar fight it out. 10 drivers will be fighting for the best of the rest positions and it will be close.
