Alonso and Renault very close!
In the Constructors' Championship, things are still in favour of Renault but Ferrari do have a chance. For Renault
to win the title they can afford to score 8 points less that Ferrari. So even if Ferrari finish in 1st and 2nd (18 points), Renault
can still win the Championship if they finish 3rd and 5th (10 points). For Ferrari, basically they have to finish 1st and 2nd and hope that the Renaults don't score more than 9 points. And even if both Renaults fail to finish, a single Ferrari has to win or both Ferraris have to finish at least 4th and 5th to win the title. Hope that wasn't too confusing! That was for the title fights. For 3rd place in the Drivers' Championship there is a close fight between Massa and Fisichella (separated by 1 point) and Raikkonen has a small chance being 9 points behind Massa. In the Constructors' Championship, the closest fight is between BMW Sauber and Toyota for 5th place. BMW Sauber are just 1 point ahead. There is a small chance that Williams can catch Red Bull in 7th place but they are 5 points behind. The
track at Interlagos (track
layout) is the 3rd shortest on the calendar after Monaco and Indy. It is very challenging for the drivers and engineers
as you need minimum drag on the straights but maximum downforce in the infield section and so a compromise setup is needed. The
track runs in an anti clockwise direction and is very bumpy making it tough on the drivers as well. The best overtaking opportunity
is at the end of the main straight. Both Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher will be under pressure and so will be
their teams. Renault are in a very comfortable position and if they don't make silly mistakes they should be able to win both
titles. Regardless of what happens, lets hope that we witness an exciting and fair race.
