Second Thursday Practice Session Report - Results

Jarno Trulli sets the fastest time of the session ahead of Allan McNish and David Coulthard. Giancarlo Fisichella, Mika Salo and Ralf Schumacher make the top 6.

Rubens Barrichello only managed 7th while Michael Schumacher was down in 11th. Juan Pablo Montoya was down in 9th.
Mark Webber was sensational managing 8th fastest but it is very likely that he set that time on light fuel.
Kimi Raikkonen missed the whole session as his car couldn't be repaired in time. He has lost valuable time and it will hurt him come qualifying.

The smashing into barriers continued this session with Yoong going off and crashing heavily forcing the session to be stopped for a few minutes. Then it was Eddie Irvine who appeared to have spun as a result of oil on the track. Felipe Massa then crashed and towards the end of the session Jenson Button hit the tyre barrier!.
Enrique Bernoldi appeared to suffer engine failure (not that this track is hard on engines!) and stopped on the track.

Olivier Panis and Jacques Villeneuve covered the most number of laps with 30 laps each. Rubens Barrichello covered 28 laps. Kimi Raikkonen failed to appear on the track as his car was still being repaired while Alex Yoong only managed 3 laps this session. Enrique Bernoldi only covered 10 while Eddie Irvine only managed 11 before they hit problems.
Overall for the day Olivier Panis covered the most number of laps with a massive 61 laps while Kimi Raikkonen only managed 6 laps for the day.

This result is certainly unexpected and as we don't know what the levels of fuel the cars are running we can't read too much into these times. Having said that, Trulli's time is very quick and is almost a second faster than the best time set on the Thursday of last year. He was the only driver to set a time under the 1:19 mark. Don't be surprised if Trulli starts from the front row on Sunday. Remember he did that in the Jordan in 2000!.

Practice continues on Saturday followed by Qualifying. There is no action on Friday as it is market day.
