German GP - 1st Friday practice

Final Order: Rubens Barrichello, Michael Schumacher, Olivier Panis, Kimi Raikkonen, Nick Heidfeld and Juan Pablo Montoya make the top 6. 
Massa, Sato, Fisichella, Frentzen, McNish, Villeneuve, Trulli, Salo, Irvine, Bernoldi, Button, R Schumacher, Coulthard, de la Rosa, Webber and Yoong make the rest of the field.

60 min: Final lap ... Barrichello moves into 1st with a time of 1:16.248. Raikkonen takes 4th with a 1:17.564.

59 min: Olivier Panis improves in 3rd but is over 1.1 seconds off the pace.

58 min: David Coulthard has covered the least number of laps with 6 and is in 19th place. He is struggling with problems and is unlikely to return to the track this session.

57 min: Michael Schumacher doesn't improve his time.

56 min: Villeneuve has stopped on the track!. He was 12th.

55 min: Rubens Barrichello improves his time with a 1:16.511 still in second. Michael fast!

54 min: Strong performance from Frentzen setting the 10th fastest time with a 1:18.539. 

53 min: Takuma Sato moves up into 8th ahead of his team-mate. 

52 min: Montoya moves into 6th just behind Raikkonen. Still only 3 Michelin runners in the top 10. 

51 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Panis, Heidfeld, Raikkonen, Massa, Fisichella, Trulli, Montoya and Sato. 

50 min: Mika Salo moves into 12th just behind his rookie team-mate Allan McNish.

49 min: But Nick Heidfeld retakes 4th with a time of 1:17.883. Interesting battle for 4th between the 2 old team-mates!

48 min: Kimi Raikkonen takes 4th with a time of 1:18.013 but still over 1.6 seconds off the pace!

47 min: Fisichella goes off into the gravel but recovers.

46 min: Michael Schumacher spins but recovers.

45 min: Michael Schumacher takes the top spot back from Barrichello with a time of 1:16.323. That is almost 0.6 seconds faster.

44 min: Nick Heidfeld takes 4th from his team-mate with a 1:18.079.

44 min: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, Panis, Massa, Raikkonen, Heidfeld, Fisichella, Montoya, McNish and Villeneuve.

43 min: So far Alex Yoong isn't doing to bad, he is within the 107% time and just a 10th behind Mark Webber. Both have covered the same amount of laps (17 each)

43 min: Massa moves into 4th with a time of 1:18.283.

43 min: Rubens Barrichello fights back and moves to the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:16.971.

42 min: So far Michael Schumacher is over 0.6 seconds ahead of Panis and over 0.9 seconds ahead of Barrichello in 3rd.

41 min: Felipe Massa improves his time but remains in 6th.

41 min: Villeneuve improves again and moves into 9th with a time of 1:19.051.

40 min: Pedro de la Rosa stops on the track with an engine problem. He was in 18th! Eddie Irvine is back in 20th at the moment.

39 min: Ralf Schumacher moves into 9th with a time of 1:19.249.

39 min: Villeneuve improves again, now up in 15th with a time of 1:19.781 but still the slowest Honda runner!

38 min: Nick Heidfeld now moves ahead of his team-mate into 5th with a time of 1:18.366.

37 min: And Raikkonen moves into 4th with a time of 1:18.341. Villeneuve moves into 19th with a time of 1:20.234.

36 min: Takuma Sato moves into 8th with a time of 1:19.041. Raikkonen on a flyer!

35 min: Montoya moves back into the top 10 with a time of 1:18.713 and that is good for 6th.

34 min: So far, Panis has done the most number of laps with 19 followed by Webber (20th) and Yoong (22nd) with 13 laps each.

33 min: The Williams pair aren't doing too many laps at this stage and they are down in 16th and 17th at this stage (Montoya then Ralf Schumacher)

32 min: Panis takes second with a time of 1:17.610. Could he be on a lighter fuel load or does this track suit him ?

31 min: Apart from the top 2, the top 10 continues to change! - Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Panis, Massa, Raikkonen, Heidfeld, Button, Coulthard, Fisichella and Trulli.

30 min: And Felipe Massa now takes 4th with a time of 1:18.686.

29 min: Panis improves yet again with a time of 1:18.107. Still in third. His team-mate Jacques Villeneuve is down in 21st with a time of 1:20.684!

28 min: Felipe Massa moves into 5th with a time of 1:19.034. He is the fastest rookie at this stage..

27 min: Rubens Barrichello improves in second with a time of 1:17.955. Almost a second slower than his team-mate.

26 min: And Michael Schumacher improves again with a time of 1:17.004.

26 min: Olivier Panis continues his strong form moving back into 3rd with a time of 1:18.830.

25 min: Under the current conditions, it appears that the Bridgestone tyres have an advantage with 7 out of the top 10 running Bridgestones.

24 min: Michael Schumacher improves his time in 1st with a 1:17.537. Fisichella moves into 7th with a time of 1:19.536.

23 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Raikkonen, Panis, Heidfeld, Coulthard, Massa, Bernoldi, de la Rosa and Montoya.

22 min: Coulthard moves into 6th with a time of 1:19.763.

21 min: Barrichello improves in second with a 1:17.995. Coulthard on a faster lap now.

20 min: Meanwhile David Coulthard's first time is only good for 14th!

20 min: Michael Schumacher goes fastest with a time of 1:17.825. That is over 1.1 seconds faster than anyone else. Stunning form!

19 min: Olivier Panis is running strong today moving into 3rd with a time of 1:19.539.

19 min: And Barrichello moves into 1st with a time of 1:18.947. Frentzen and Coulthard on track.

18 min: Giancarlo Fisichella moves into 8th with a time of 1:20.264. Barrichello on a flyer!

18 min: Raikkonen improves his time in 1st with a time of 1:18.998. Ralf Schumacher moves into 5th with a time of 1:20.049.

17 min: Juan Pablo Montoya moves into 3rd with a 1:20.023.

16 min: Top 10 - Raikkonen, Massa, Sato, Bernoldi, Panis, Irvine, Salo, McNish, Villeneuve and Webber.

16 min: Kimi Raikkonen is the first of the drivers from the top 3 teams to set a time moving straight into 1st with a 1:19.623.

15 min: Massa retakes the top spot with a time of 1:19.859 while Bernoldi in the Arrows takes second with a time of 1:20.429. Good start from the Arrows!

15 min: As this is a new track for all purposes, the times will continue to tumble as the drivers adjust their cars. Also expect to see a big difference between team-mates here.

14 min: Olivier Panis moves to the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:21.240. Irvine moves into 6th with a 1:22.180.

13 min: Felipe Massa tops the time sheets with a 1:21.316 while Sato takes second with a 1:21.372.

12 min: Olivier Panis moves into 3rd with a time of 1:22.961. Yoong improves with a 1:24.549.

11 min: Mika Salo goes second with a time of 1:22.748. Panis, Webber and Sato on track.

10 min: Alex Yoong sets a time of 1:26.757

9 min: Allan McNish sets a time of 1:21.851.

8 min: Allan McNish starts his first flying lap as Yoong and Salo join in.

7 min: Allan McNish returns to the track for a longer run.

6 min: Michael Schumacher pits after his second lap as Barrichello goes out onto the track.

4 min: Michael Schumacher stays out on the track for another lap. Villeneuve takes to the track.

3 min: Michael Schumacher is now on the track.

2 min: The cars are now back into the pits. Only the 2 Ferraris and Villeneuve have yet to appear on the track.
