Canadian Grand Prix Race Report

Michael Schumacher wins the Canadian Grand Prix by 0.174 seconds ahead of Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella. Mika Hakkinen, Jos Verstappen and Jarno Trulli make the top 6. Michael Schumacher becomes the first driver to win from Pole position in 13 attempts.

Michael Schumacher only had to worry about David Coulthard for a few laps until David was called in for a stop and go penalty due to having McLaren mechanics on the grid past the allowed time before the warmup lap. Both had already created a 20 second cushion to 3rd place Jacques Villeneuve who drove a brilliant race until 4 laps from the end when he made a mistake trying to pass David Coulthard and crashed into Ralf Schumacher. Jacques was frustrated when made his first pit stop and put on slicks where he should have put on wets as it had just started to rain. Giancarlo Fisichella benefited from a late stop strategy that he only needed to pit once and hence finishing ahead of all those who had to stop twice except for the 2 Ferrari's. Jos Verstappen drove a brilliant race and managed to pass several cars on the track in the wet and finished in 5th place.

Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard make a good start but it is Jacques Villeneuve who made another blinding start from 6th to 3rd. Eddie Irvine does not get off the starting line and is pushed to the side. He rejoins 2 laps down.
