NewsOnF1 - The Real Race - Round 13

While I thought Ralf would pip Juan Pablo I didn't expect Montoya to be competing in a different race!
Hungary 2002 was indeed 2 races, with a very tight spread from 4th to 15th. Rubens and Michael were competing up front, Ralf was in the middle and then the rest tried to juggle for positions a second and a half plus adrift of the red cars.

Michael got beaten, the McLarens got lost. Bridgestone won the day and the McLarens couldn't stay with the Saubers. The Renaults also got the better of them and 10th and 11th was where they belonged.

There were some surprises, notably the Saubers and McLarens. Not having the Arrows cars there was not surprising, seeing 2 Minardis 0.6 seconds apart was.

Anthony Davidson is very, very good. To lose your first real race to Mark Webber by only a half a second is an achievement. To do it in a strange car is fantastic.

The Saubers split Trulli and Button and Fisichella excelled. For the rest of the pack there was clear stratification. Ferraris, Williams, Saubers, McLarens, BAR's, Jaguars, Toyotas and Minardis all side by side. As in Europe, the cars (and Fisichella's talent) determined the result.

Mark Webber remains as the sole keeper of a perfect 13-0 score, with Salo on 12-1, Frentzen on 11-1 and Heidfeld and Fisichella on 10 apiece. Michael and Jarno are the only other drivers to have asserted any real authority with their 9 wins to date.

The Hungarian GP 'Also Ran' Award.

Not much to think about really, for the second time in a row our Almost Champion wins an Also Ran. Juan Pablo Montoya has dropped the ball and Ralf seems to have picked it up. I spent the first half of the season criticising Ralf. Guess I have to level the playing field. In the absence of a Malaysian contender the Columbian wins by a second.

For someone with so much promise Juan sure can be bad when he tries (or doesn't).
