Montoya - he did what he loves to do, he put an equal car in front of a driver. Ralf better start getting used to seeing the back of JPM in the Real Races, he will do a lot more of it in future.

Schumacher (the racer, not the driver) - he did what he's paid to do, put a superior car in a superior position on the grid. I'm frankly very surprised that he didn't have a much larger gap to Barrichello! Schumacher is worth a 1/2 a second - That means the F2002 is only worth 0.2 seconds? If Michael comes to the same conclusion he will definitely run with the F2001 tomorrow in that other race.

Raikkonen - Again he showed his stuff, just being pipped by the vastly more experienced DC (who gave it 100% and put together the perfect lap - at least that's what he said he would do) despite mechanical problems that saw him out for his second run in the T car after failing to set a time on his first run. In sector 1 of his first, aborted, run he was a clear 0.1 seconds faster than David on his equivalent run. Makes you wonder what the result could have been.

Bernoldi is closing the gap to Frentzen and the rest finished either where they should, relative to their partner, or where we expected them to be, with Eddie 'It's not me it's the car' Irvine still behind Pedro and Nick Heidfeld having had his wake-up call and responding to his Australian GP 'Also Ran' award, pipping his rookie team mate by a whole 3 places.

Brazil saw the re-emergence of Renault as a force to be reckoned with and offered a glimmer of hope to a sadly under performing McLaren.

As a footnote: While the stewards may have disallowed Sato's and Barrichello's best times for that other race tomorrow, for the Real Race their times stand.

The Brazilian GP 'Also Ran' Award.

In a close battle with Alex Yoong (the least-best partner in the field) our winner today is a much bigger name with much greater pretensions. Yesterday he said " I think anyway that tomorrow’s pole position is going to be decided between Michael, Juan and myself" Gee two out of three ain't bad. Ralf had a nine from ten lead in the first ten rounds of the Real Race last year.

The times they are a'changing, he's taken three from the last ten (including Melbourne where JPM got beaten by the rain, not Ralf) and the drought appears to be setting in.

Todays Also Ran - The man with all of his big brother's last name and a little less than all of his talent - Ralf Schumacher.
