Issue 6-15 (The fat lady is singing)

Soeren M from Germany writes: Sauber getting stronger this year surely was no surprise; they have great Ferrari parts to feast on and before their current state-of-the-art wind tunnel, they not only had a worse one, they had a miscalibrated wind tunnel. And given that F1 is more about aerodynamics than about propulsion or steering / driving or anything else, this had to have a huge impact on their performance.
Watch out for them making Luca di Montezemolo feel a bit uneasy next season, unless Villeneuve and Massa ruin Sauber's best bet yet at REALLY scoring.
J.V. seems to vindicate his critics, not Flavio's or Peter's faith in him. After all, the Williams of 1997 probably wasn't just a *really competitive* car, it was simply unbeatable. The fact that he *almost got* beaten by Michael Schumacher doesn't prove this wrong, instead it proves this all the more.

Hi Soeren,

Although you are right, I feel that the challenge faced by Sauber is to make hay while the sun shines early in the season. The alternative is to take on the mighty technical development teams of the leading constructors and Sauber just do not have the budget for it.

Now that their wind tunnel works lets see what they can do for next year.

You are absolutely right F1 today is about aerodynamics – maximising downforce while minimising drag.

Jeff S from the USA writes: While the season is pretty much over, Brazil is one of only three races when I don't have to get up at 0-dark-thiry to be able to watch the race live, the other ones being Canada and U.S., the ones in the far east are on late Saturday. So I will be watching and (hopefully) enjoying this race.
The season has been interesting and (sometimes) exciting behind Ferrari. I hope next year is a little closer between the top teams. Who, other than Ferrari, are the top teams going to be is anybody's guess.
Now I have to find some other form of racing to get my fix until March and the new season.

What other forms of racing is available to get the fix?

It is great to be able to watch some races when one is awake. As it becomes more global, I suspect that F1 may get a few more races in your time zone.

Here’s hoping for a competitive season next year. I have high hopes, if only because tyres may not leave debris, which will make overtaking easier.

No matter what Ferrari may say, everything is calculated to guarantee a 1-2 to Ferrari. Of course Barrichello will win 1 or 2 races until the end of the season.. but only after Schumacher assures all the records he is looking for.

Issue 6-2 (Now its up to Bridgestone)

Tomas from the Czech Republic writes: GOOD PREDICTION But FERRARI will be strongest again. Actually the new car IS a derivative of last years, but FERRARI's problems last year were multifold, plus they used the revized 2002 car. I expect RENAULT to be closest again with ALONSO.

Well, you were right about Ferrari and if Renault did not get their race strategy wrong as well as Alonso farming on his qualifying lap you may even have been right about them too. Bahrain may be better for them – can’t be worse.
