Results - Individual Races

The winner in each round wins a NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio
If a player wins more than once, they would receive an alternate prize for each of their wins.
In case of a tie in a round, the earliest entry submitted for that round wins. Those carrying over picks from a previous round will be considered last in case of a tie.

Top 10 Brazil

A slightly below average scoring round in Brazil after Michael Schumacher failed to make it in the top 3 on the grid and couldn't finish higher than 7th in the race. Still most of the other top drivers finished where they were expected to finish.
No player managed to pick all 8 but over 35 players managed to pick 7 out of the 8 finishers.

The Winner for this round:

We have 3 players tied at the top of the table for the round of Brazil. Sciko, tifosi82 and pegasus have all scored 39 points. The rules give advantage to those who submit a pick for the round over those who let their picks carry over from the previous round. Sciko submitted picks for the round of Brazil while tifosi82 and pegasus didn't and so Sciko wins the NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio. Congratulations
Sciko managed to pick 7 out of the top 8 finishers with 2nd and sixth in their exact finishing place. Picking Rubens Barrichello for pole earned Sciko 4 additional points and scored a bonus 6 points for picking 7 and Pole!

Top 10 Japan

An above average scoring round in Japan as Michael Schumacher won Pole and the race. Additionally all the top 8 finishers are regulars so it is no surprise to see a relatively high scoring round. The crash between Coulthard and Barrichello had an impact as those two were very consistent in finishing in the points.
1 player managed to pick 8 out of the 8 finishers but without Pole. The accuracy of the picks however weren't high and hence that player didn't make it into the top 10.

The Winner for this round:

Congratulations to The Meanest from New Zealand who won this round with 46 points.
The Meanest wins the NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio.
The Meanest managed to pick just 6 out of the top 8 finishers but all 6 were in their exact finishing places (1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th). Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned The Meanest 4 additional points and scored a bonus 4 points for picking 6 and Pole!
This result highlights the importance of getting the finishing place right.

Other top scorers:

Raceace Junior was second with 45 points. Raceace Junior managed to pick 7 of the top 8 finishers with 1st, 7th and 8th in their exact finishing places and 2nd and 3rd swapped. Top 10 Belgium

The second lowest scoring round this season (behind Monaco) following the retirement or struggle of many of the top team drivers. Only one player managed to pick 6 out of the 8 finishers but the accuracy of the picks were low and this player didn't make the top 10!.

The Winner for this round:

Congratulations to tundraotto from the United States who won this round with 33 points. tundraotto wins the NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio.
tundraotto managed to pick only 4 out of the top 8 finishers but they were all in their exact finishing place (1st, 2nd, 3rd  and 7th). Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned tundraotto 2 additional points but didn't score any bonus points as tundraotto picked just 4 and Pole!

Winner Quote: "I guess it paid off for me to trust Kimi to place on top at Spa. I knew it was a track that he really liked and he felt that he had something to prove. If the MP4-19B was going to hold together after being gradually tweaked for more high speed I knew Kimi would have the advantage over the Ferraris. At Spa you need power as it has a very high proportion of full throttle time, so you could kind of throw an educated guess at which of the teams would place in the points there."

Other top scorers:

6 players are tied for second this round after scoring 29 points each while 5 players were tied in 8th after each scoring 28 points.

Another round with a mixed result. Michael winning Pole and the Race helped improve the average score but behind Michael the results weren't as expected. Top 10 Britain

A relatively low scoring round as a number of top drivers either failed to score or retired. Additionally, Michael Schumacher not qualifying in the top 3 meant that most of the players missed out on Pole and halved their overall bonus.
Still those who picked the finishers in their exact  places benefited greatly and moved up the ranks.

The Winner for this round:

Congratulations to Kaps from India who won this round with 47 points. Kaps becomes the first player in the competition to win 2 rounds this season. As a result, Kaps wins the NewsOnF1 Professional Binoculars. Well Done!
Kaps managed to pick 7 out of the top 8 finishers with 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th in their exact finishing places. Kaps scored a bonus 3 points for picking 7 without Pole!

Winner Quote: "On the competition on newsonf1.com, all I can say its completely fabulous. The way you guys have managed and conducted it, is simply amazing!!
For me as I'm a passionate lover of this sport no matter if Schumi is winning all the way, this competition gives me an opportunity to showcase my knowledge about the sport to people in different country inspite of no F1 race being held here.
I would really like to thank you guys for this competition, as it shows to the rest of the world that India is not far behind.
On the pick, it was a gamble taken by me with a possibility of scattered showers. The drivers picked by me are the drivers who would perform well even if the rain had come for even 5 min. Also as Silverstone is a power circuit, I'd to include Sauber which I think no one predicted.
Now I'm really looking forward to the second half of the season.
You guys keep up the great work!!."

Other top scorers:

Andy Pandy was second with 44 points. Andy Pandy managed to pick 7 of the top 8 finishers with 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th in their exact finishing places. Andy Pandy scored a bonus 3 points for picking 7 without Pole!
Min was third with 43 points. Min only managed to pick 5 of the top 8 finishers but the top 4 were in their exact places. Min also picked Kimi Raikkonen for Pole which earned Min 4 additional points as well as 2 bonus points for picking 5 and Pole!

Top 10 France

A high scoring round as there were nearly no retirements from the race (Sato and Baumgartner being the exceptions). 15 players managed to pick all 8 finishers, none though had a perfect score.

The Winner for this round:

Congratulations to TheOMan from Romania who won this round with 54 points. TheOMan wins the NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio.

Winner Quote: "I am very happy to have won this round and still cannot believe I did it. I am a big fan of F1 for some time now, been watching it since 1991 or 92, I watch all the races and other info. I only found out about 8'N'Pole after the start of the season and I didn't hesitate to enter. I would have liked to be here from the beginning, but ... next year I will for sure. I like this type of competitions and I want to thank the guys that brought this competition to life.
About my winning picks, I always try to think about the real facts in the field, and I did that when picking the 8'n'pole that won the round for me. Of course, Michael Schumacher was my pick for winner and pole, and the 2nd Ferrari in 3rd. Also, I put the other according to what I thought they are able to do, and it worked. All but with Montoya, I was hoping to see him go higher this season. Also Alonso was a big surpise for me in this round. Still, I was also lucky to get all 8 of them, and I wonder what would have been if I had 2nd and 8th place in the right order.
Now I wish all of you good luck with your picks and I look forward to winning another round. And of course I hope no one will get a bigger winning margin that my 6 points.:-)"

Other top scorers:

Ads was tied for second with 48 points. Ads managed to pick 7 of the top 8 finishers with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in their exact finishing places. Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned Ads 2 additional points and scored a bonus 6 points for picking 7 and Pole!

With Ferrari dominating again and BAR and Renault taking the places of Williams and McLaren, the scores for this round were mixed. Those who decided to pick the BAR and Renault drivers benefited greatly while those sticking with the Williams and McLaren drivers plunged in the rankings. This has made things even more interesting in the competition.
Again no player managed to pick all 8 but there was over 50 players with 7 correct picks. That is an outstanding result and shows that the players in the competition are paying great attention to what is happening at every race. Well done!

Top 10 Monaco

An interesting race with many incidents resulted in many of the top runners out of the race and hence the scoring this round was the lowest so far this season. But one would expect that in Monaco!
No players managed to pick all 8 or even 7 for that matter. In fact only 1 player managed to pick 6 out of the top 8 and just 10 players managed 5. Most players had 4 or 3 correct picks.

The Winner for this round:

Congratulations to WinstonCHL from Canada who won this round with 31 points. WinstonCHL wins the NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio.
WinsotnCHL managed to pick 6 of the top 8 finishers with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th in their exact finishing places. Picking Jenson Button for pole (was 2nd on the grid) earned WinstonCHL 2 additional points and scored a bonus 4 points for picking 6 and Pole!

Winner Quote: "This competition has been fun. I'd have to say that my picks are mostly a combination of guesses and hope. I only started paying attention to F1 when Toyota decided to enter a team.
Looking forward to getting my radio :-)."

Other top scorers:

sigelweb and Glenn Ward were tied for 2nd place with 29 points each.
sigelweb just joined the competition and wasn't too far from winning the round (better luck next time!). sigelweb managed to pick 4 of the top 8 finishers with 2nd and 3rd in their exact finishing places. Picking Jarno Trulli for pole earned sigelweb 4 additional points. sigelweb didn't score any bonus points for picking 4 and Pole!
Glenn Ward managed to pick 4 of the top 8 finishers with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th in their exact finishing places. Picking Jenson Button for pole (was 2nd on the grid) earned Glenn Ward 4 additional points. Glenn Ward didn't score any bonus points for picking 4 and Pole!

Top 10 San Marino

One of the highest scoring rounds on record with over 50 players in the competition managing to predict all the top 8 finishers!.
With most of the top drivers finishing in the top 8, it is expected to have a lot of players with 8 correct picks. What really matters though is the order of those picks and how close they were to the actual finishing order.

The Winner for this round:

Congratulations to aabc01 from Brazil who won this round with 54 points. aabc01 wins the NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio.
aabc01 managed to pick 8 of the top 8 finishers with 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th in their exact finishing places. Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned aabc01 2 additional points and scored a bonus 10 points for picking 8 and Pole!

Winner Quote: "Winning this prize made me very happy!!!!
I've been with News on F1 for quite a while and I've been watching F1 races since 1972 when I was 10 and Emerson Fittipaldi used to drive the black and gold JPS Lotus Ford.
I frequently write comments under the name of Andre B and scoring points have been quite easy in 2004. The cars seem to be reliable as Michael does.
Unfortunately for us (Brazilians) it seems that Ferrari's key to success is the perfect hierarchy inside the team. I was hoping that Barrichello would move to Williams or Toyota, but who can blame him? MS is surely happy to have him racing to Ferrari because a "wilder" teammate could spoil the team's harmony.
I also think that Ralf and Coulthard should join Villeneuve next December."

Other top scorers:

Deon managed to also pick 8 out of the top 8 with 1st, 4th, 7th and 8th in their exact finishing places.  Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned Deon 2 additional points and scored a bonus 10 points for picking 8 and Pole!
gloggy managed to also pick 8 out of the top 8 again with 1st, 4th, 7th and 8th in their exact finishing places.  Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned gloggy 2 additional points and scored a bonus 10 points for picking 8 and Pole!

5 players were tied for 4th place with 51 points.

Top 10 Bahrain

A Ferrari 1-2 and a bad result for both Williams and McLaren meant that the scores have varied significantly with a number of players scoring 40 points and more while a few failed to reach 20 points. This has shuffled the overall rankings!.

Congratulations to stoffestoffe from Sweden who won this round with 46 points and 4 points clear of anyone else. stoffestoffe wins the NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio.
stoffestoffe managed to pick 7 of the top 8 finishers 1st, 6th, 7th and 8th in their exact finishing places. Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned stoffestoffe 4 additional points and scored a bonus 6 points for picking 7 and Pole!

Top 10 Malaysia

A less predictable result than the first round but still 6 of the top 8 finishers were from the top 4 teams and hence the scores were relatively high. The average score was just over a point lower than the first round.
No player managed to pick all 8 however several managed 7 which is remarkable. Again just 3 of those managed to be in the top 10 due to the accuracy of those picks.

The Winner for this round:

This round we have a tie for 1st place between lilly and Shawn. The rules give advantage to those who submit a pick for the round over those who let their picks carry over from the previous round. lilly submitted picks for the round of Malaysia while Shawn didn't and so lilly wins the NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio.
lilly managed to pick 7 of the top 8 finishers with 1st, 2nd and 6th in their exact finishing places. Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned lilly 4 additional points and scored a bonus 6 points for picking 7 and Pole!
Shawn managed to pick 6 of the top 8 finishers with 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th and 7th in their exact finishing places. Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned Shawn 4 additional points and scored a bonus 4 points for picking 6 and Pole!

Winner Quote: "I'm watching the F1 competition from last year, and I've made an account on this site last year too. I like to watch the competition, but most, I like to predict who will be the winners. So, how did I choose the winner picks? :)
I have a favorite driver, and this is Michael Schumacher. Obviously, I put him on the first place and on the pole position. In my opinion, all drivers that I've chosen, are the best drivers :), that's why I picked them. But I have to admit that I have a lot of luck :).."

Other top scorers:

GhoGho managed to pick 6 out of the top 8 with 1st, 2nd and 7th in their exact finishing places.  Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned GhoGho 4 additional points and scored a bonus 4 points for picking 6 and Pole!
Mrs Gail Lee
managed to pick 6 out of the top 8 with 1st, 2nd and 6th in their exact finishing places.  Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned Mrs Gail Lee 4 additional points and scored a bonus 4 points for picking 6 and Pole!
JFDI Racing
managed to pick 6 out of the top 8 with 1st, 5th and 6th in their exact finishing places.  Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned JFDI Racing 4 additional points and scored a bonus 4 points for picking 6 and Pole!

Top 10 Australia

The first race of the 2004 season turned out to have a predictable result going against many predictions!. The reliability of the cars ensured that 7 out of the top 8 drivers (those driving for the top 4 teams) finished in the top 8. The accuracy of the picks though made a big difference.
5 players managed to pick all the top 8 finishers correctly but only two of them actually rank in the top 10.

The Winner for this round:

SuperRoo wins this round and the NewsOnF1 AM/FM pocket radio. SuperRoo managed to pick all top 8 finishers with 1st, 4th and 8th in their exact finishing places. Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned SuperRoo 4 additional points and scored a bonus 10 points for picking 8 and Pole!

Winner Quote: "The basis of my tips were formed on winter testing. It was obvious that Ferrari, Renault, Williams and BAR were standouts. McLaren were having serious problems, and Jaguar's results were mixed. The Australian GP is always a lottery, and I thought it was a safe bet that the top 8 drivers would come from the top 4 teams in testing. However I am still not convinced about Sato, so I left him out. I also left out Webber, because the Jaguar needs more time (even though I was at the track cheering him on). I included Coulthard because I just didn't think McLaren could be that bad, and he is a driver that can get a car home. With a bit of luck thrown in, I managed a winning score. It may be shortlived but today I am very pleased with my self."

Other top scorers:

adiles managed to pick 7 out of the top 8 with 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th and 8th in their exact finishing places.  Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned adiles 4 additional points and scored a bonus 6 points for picking 7 and Pole!
aabc01 managed to pick 7 out of the top 8 with 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th in their exact finishing places.  Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned aabc01 4 additional points and scored a bonus 6 points for picking 7 and Pole!
Chris Herbert managed to pick 7 out of the top 8 with 1st, 3rd, 7th and 8th in their exact finishing places.  Picking Michael Schumacher for pole earned Chris Herbert 4 additional points and scored a bonus 6 points for picking 7 and Pole!

5 players managed to pick 8 out of 8 while 116 managed 7 out of 8. A surprising high average score for round 1.
