7 January: In
a surprise announcement Red Bull Racing announced today the appointment of Christian Horner as Sporting Director of
the team with a technical director to be named within a week. The announcement was made shortly after dismissing Tony Purnell
and David Pitchforth who ran Jaguar Racing and were retained by Red Bull following the sale of Jaguar Racing. A statement by Red Bull read "Horner will jointly manage Red Bull Racing together with a new technical director, whose appointment will be announced within the next week." This change will cause another setback to the team already struggling to produce a new car in time for Melbourne. A team insider described the situation within the team as "a complete state of shock". It is speculated that Guenther Steiner who was Jaguar's Managing Director at the time Niki Lauda was in charge may take over the Technical Director role. 2005 Formula 1 Team and Driver Lineup Loading
