San Marino GP - 1st Saturday Practice

Juan Pablo Montoya set the fastest time of the session just 0.081 seconds ahead of his team-mate Ralf Schumacher with David Coulthard in 3rd. Michael Schumacher, Heinz Harald Frentzen and Jacques Villeneuve make the top 6.
Panis, Fisichella, Barrichello, Massa, Bernoldi, McNish, Sato, Heidfeld, Raikkonen, Button, Trulli, Webber, Salo, Yoong make the rest of the field. Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa didn't set competitive times.

Session over as Barrichello spins. And Fisichella spins too. Meanwhile Montoya goes fastest!

45 min: Ralf goes even faster with a time of 1:29.867.

45 min: Coulthard goes fastest with a time of 1:30.368.

44 min: Montoya goes off after his flyer but recovers. 

44 min: Juan Pablo Montoya jumps into second with a time of 1:31.257. 

43 min: Ralf improves into 4th while Massa takes 5th 

42 min: Montoya and Coulthard are also on dry tyres. 

41 min: And Ralf moves into 5th with a time of 1:32.421. 

40 min: With 5 minutes to go, Ralf Schumacher is out on dry tyres. This track takes a long time to dry! 

39 min: Olivier Panis has covered the most number of laps so far with 14.

38 min: Giancarlo Fisichella takes second from Barrichello with a time of 1:31.562.

36 min: Takuma Sato takes 3rd from Panis with a 1:32.400. Bernoldi into 8th.

35 min: Pedro de la Rosa loses it on his flying lap. His session is over!

34 min: The Toyotas are struggling. Currently in 18th and 19th and around 9 seconds off the pace. 

34 min: Olivier Panis moves into 3rd with a time of 1:32.451. That is 1.755 seconds off the pace. 

33 min: Pedro de la Rosa is on the track for his first flying lap. 

32 min: Jenson Button moves into 11th to become the second fastest Michelin behind Raikkonen in 8th! 

31 min: Williams drivers are 15th (Montoya) and 16th (R Schumacher) 

30 min: Top 10: M Schumacher, Barrichello, Heidfeld, Villeneuve, Massa, Fisichella, Panis, Raikkonen,  Frentzen and Sato. 9 out of the top 10 are on Bridgestone! 

30 min: With 15 minutes to go, Michael Schumacher tops the times with a 1:30.696. 

29 min: Barrichello goes fastest with a 1:31.607. Coulthard goes 9th while Michael starts his first flyer. Both Jaguars yet to go out.

28 min: Nick Heidfeld goes fastest with a time of 1:32.548. Coulthard on the track and Barrichello on a flyer.

27 min: Both Michael and David have yet to set times, it looks like they want to save tyres until the track is dry.

26 min: Top 10: Villeneuve, Massa, Fisichella, Panis, Heidfeld, Frentzen, Sato, Bernoldi, Raikkonen and Button. The top 8 are on Bridgestone!

25 min: Jarno Trulli moves into 10th with a time of 1:35.987.

24 min: Jacques Villeneuve goes fastest with a time of 1:32.799. When did we see that last!

23 min: Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard, the 2 Jaguars and Heidfeld have yet to set a time.

21 min: Olivier Panis takes second from his team-mate but Felipe Massa (also on Bridgestone) takes second away.

20 min: Jacques Villeneuve moves into 2nd with a time of 1:33.757. With Ferrari not setting times yet, the 4 Honda runners are in the top 5 thanks to Bridgestone who seem superior in these conditions.

19 min: Panis moves back into 4th with a time of 1:34.263.

18 min: Top 10: Fisichella, Frentzen, Sato, Raikkonen, Button, Panis, Montoya, R Schumacher, Bernoldi and Webber.

17 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen goes second fastest with a time of 1:33.788 while Raikkonen moves into 4th with a time of 1:34.925. Michael Schumacher has yet to set a time.

16 min: Sato and Fisichella continue to swap fastest times. It is still Fisichella with a 1:33.300.

15 min: Ralf Schumacher's first time is good for 3rd with a 1:36.737.

14 min: Sato tops the timesheets momentarily but Fisichella retakes it with a time of 1:34.741. Panis moves into 3rd with a time of 1:38.042. Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button on the track.

13 min: Fisichella goes fastest with a time of 1:36.271. Salo moves into 3rd with a 1:42.811. Ralf Schumacher on the track

12 min: Sato sets the first time of the day with a 1:36.867. Fisichella on his flying lap.

11 min: Takuma Sato starts his first flying lap.

10 min: The 2 Jordans appear as well as the 2 Toyotas.

8 min: No cars on the track. The track is still not dry and each time would want someone else to dry the track for them so they don't waste a set of tyres!

6 min: Barrichello is now on the track and so is David Coulthard. No times set yet.

4 min: Eddie Irvine pits without setting a time. Michael Schumacher just completed his shakedown lap. while Barrichello has yet to appear.

2 min: Many cars are out on the track already. They'll try to make up for the lost time in the wet yesterday. Irvine stays out for a second lap!

Session underway and Takuma Sato is again the first man on the track. Most cars are either on used wet or intermediates but they'll switch to dry tyres soon.

Ferrari dominated yesterday in mainly wet conditions. The Bridgestone runners also had an advantage over the Michelin runners however both McLaren's and Trulli in the Renault were looking good.
Top 6 from yesterday: M Schumacher, Barrichello, Fisichella, Coulthard, Raikkonen and Frentzen.

The weather forecast keeps changing. It is now expected to remain dry during the morning sessions but there is a 40% chance of rain during the qualifying hour. Session starting in 3 minutes

Session starting at 9:00 AM local time. The weather is fine but the track is wet from the rain earlier. The air temperature is 13 degrees.
