Japanese GP - Qualifying:

Michael Schumacher grabs his 11th Pole of the season ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher. Barrichello, Hakkinen, Fisichella, Coulthard, Trulli, Button and Heidfeld make the top 10.

60 min: Barrichello improves but remains in 4th.

60 min: Ralf Schumacher takes 3rd from Barrichello. Hakkinen doesn't improve.

59 min: Montoya doesn't improve.

59 min: Montoya starts his flyer but Michael's Pole time is certainly safe.

58 min: Almost everyone is on the track, except for Michael Schumacher.

57 min: Montoya and Coulthard are back on the track for their final run.

56 min: Only the top 4 are within a second!. Ralf on track.

55 min: Michael Schumacher improves his time by another 0.3 seconds, a  1.32.484!

54 min: Michael Schumacher also improves on the second sector.

48 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Montoya, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Hakkinen, Fisichella, Coulthard, Trulli, Heidfeld and Alesi.

40 min: Michael Schumacher starts his second run. Trulli improves his time and is currently in 8th place.

39 min: Giancarlo Fisichella takes 5th with a time of 1:33.830. Impressive!

39 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, R Schumacher, Hakkinen, Montoya, Coulthard, Trulli, Alesi, Heidfeld and Button.

38 min: Barrichello moves up to second with a time of  1:33.341. He is 0.273 seconds slower than Michael

26 min: Jean Alesi takes 5th from Heidfeld. Alesi wants to put on a great show on his final race.

25 min: Eddie Irvine moves into 7th with a time of 1:35.284. Michael Schumacher on track.

24 min: Nick Heidfeld moves into 5th with a time of 1:34.680

23 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, R Schumacher, Coulthard, Montoya, Raikkonen, Button, Villeneuve, de la Rosa, Enge and Bernoldi.

22 min: Mika Hakkinen takes provisional pole with a time of 1:33.814. Coulthard in 3rd.

21 min: Ralf Schumacher takes provisional pole with a time of 1:34.176. Hakkinen on a flyer

20 min: Montoya goes fastest with a time of 1:34.393. Slightly slower than his best this morning but he was held by traffic.

19 min: Tomas Enge goes second with a time of 1:37.222. Montoya starts his flying lap.

18 min: Kimi Raikkonen goes fastest with a time of 1:35.056. Ralf Schumacher and the 2 McLarens on the track too.

17 min: Enrique Bernoldi sets a 1:37.374 and that is faster than his best time this morning.

16 min: And another rookie with Montoya joining.

15 min: Tomas Enge is also on the track. So far all the drivers on the track are Formula 1 rookies.

14 min: Kimi Raikkonen also goes out on the track.

14 min: Enrique Bernoldi goes out on the track for his first run.

13 min: Fernando Alonso sets a time of 1:37.943 and that is also slower than his best time this morning.

11 min: Fernando Alonso is the second driver to go out on his first run. He was 19th fastest in the final practice session.

9 min: Ralf Schumacher set a time this morning in practice that was almost 2 seconds faster the Pole time of last year. Pole time will probably be over 3 seconds quicker than last year.

7 min: Alex Yoong sets a time of 1:39.399 which is slower than his best time this morning.

6 min: Alex Yoong starts his flying lap. He was 22nd in the final practice session.

4 min: Alex Yoong is the first man out on the track for his first run.

3 min: The battle for Pole is expected to be fought between the 2 Williams and Michael Schumacher although McLaren have shown some promise in practice. Barrichello appears to be struggling this weekend. No cars on the track yet.

Session underway and as usual with qualifying we don't expect anyone to go out on the track for around 10 to 15 minutes.

Qualifying session starting at 1:00 PM local time. It is mainly sunny with the air temperature at 22 degrees.
