Hungarian GP - 1st Practice Session:

Michael Schumacher sets the fastest time of the session ahead of Rubens Barrichello and Mika Hakkinen. Coulthard, R Schumacher, Heidfeld, Frentzen, Panis, Villeneuve and Raikkonen make the top 10.

60 min: Ralf Schumacher takes 5th back with a time of 1:18.456.  

59 min: Mika Hakkinen moves into 3rd with a time of 1:17.606. 

58 min: Final run for the cars now, Alesi and Coulthard are out of the session. 

56 min: Raikkonen and Marques have covered the most number of laps so far with 18 each. 

55 min: Session restarted (stopped for 3 minutes) - Alonso is the first to go back out. 

55 min: Session stopped - Debris on the track from Coulthard's car. Coulthard did not crash but went over the curbs and damaged his car.

55 min: Coulthard very fast but goes over the kerbs and damaged his car. Debris on the track and the session is stopped!

54 min: Michael Schumacher moves to the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:16.995.

53 min: Top 10: Barrichello, M Schumacher, Coulthard, Hakkinen, Heidfeld, R Schumacher, Trulli, Panis, Villeneuve and Raikkonen. 

52 min: Panis moves ahead of his team-mate Villeneuve while Marques (21) is ahead of Alonso (22)! 

51 min: Nick Heidfeld takes 5th back from Ralf with a time of 1:18.851. 

49 min: Ralf spins but recovers. 

48 min: Ralf Schumacher moves into 5th with a time of 1:19.036.

47 min: Jacques Villeneuve moves into the top 10 ahead of his team-mate in 7th place.

46 min: Jarno Trulli takes 6th place from Panis with a time of 1:19.430. 

44 min: Juan Pablo Montoya improves into 15th place. He is way off the pace just under 4 seconds slower than Barrichello. 

42 min: Frentzen improves to 18th with a time of 1:21.611.

40 min: Nick Heidfeld takes 5th away from Panis with a time of 1:19.046. His team-mate is in 8th place.

39 min: Mika Hakkinen improves his time but remains in 4th. Bernoldi has done the most number of laps with 13 so far. 

38 min: Top 10: Barrichello, M Schumacher, Coulthard, Hakkinen, Panis, Heidfeld, Irvine, Raikkonen, R Schumacher and Trulli. 

37 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen finally sets a competitive time and moves into 20th place. Just under 6 seconds off the pace!

36 min: Hakkinen moves into 4th with a time of 1:19.039. It looks set to be a 2 way battle between Ferrari and McLaren!

35 min: Coulthard moves into 3rd with a time of 1:18.182. That is 0.892 seconds off the pace. Hakkinen on track.

34 min: David Coulthard is on the track. Jenson Button moves into 17th place.

33 min: The 2 McLarens have yet to set a time. Jenson Button has just started his first timed lap.

32 min: Olivier Panis takes 3rd away from Heidfeld with a time of 1:19.857. That is 2.567 seconds off the pace in 3rd!

31 min: Nick Heidfeld moves into 3rd while Fisichella is in 8th!

30 min: Rubens Barrichello takes 1st back with a time of 1:17.290. This is already faster than Pole time of last year!!

29 min: Michael Schumacher goes fastest with a time of 1:17.707 on his very first lap! 

27 min: Barrichello goes fastest with a time of 1:18.348! 

26 min: Top 10: Irvine, R Schumacher, Barrichello, Trulli, de la Rosa, Montoya, Raikkonen, Verstappen, Villeneuve and Alesi. 

25 min: Villeneuve on the track as Barrichello moves into 3rd place.

24 min: But Ralf Schumacher takes 2nd away from him with a time of 1:20.372. Montoya moves into 9th place.

23 min: Jarno Trulli goes second fastest with a time of 1:20.735

22 min: The 2 Williams are also on the track.

21 min: Jarno Trulli and Jos Verstappen start their first flying laps.

20 min: Kimi Raikkonen takes 3rd with a time of 1:21.507. The Saubers are not expected to do well on this kind of track.

19 min: Only 8 drivers have set timed laps so far. Frentzen (in the Prost) was very slow on his lap and returned to the pits. He is probably just checking the car out.

18 min: Top 6: Irvine, de la Rosa, Alesi, Raikkonen, Bernoldi and Alonso. 

16 min: Oops, Jean Alesi loses it and is stuck in the gravel trap. Session over for him!

14 min: Eddie Irvine goes fastest with a time of 1:19.996 - Jaguar have a good car for high downforce tracks

12 min: Several teams are introducing new aerodynamic packages including Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, BAR and Benetton.

11 min: Fernando Alonso sets a time of 1:24.122. Frentzen on the track and so are the 2 Jaguars.

10 min: Enrique Bernoldi sets a time of 1:22.965

8 min: Fernando Alonso and Enrique Bernoldi go out on their first timed laps. 

4 min: All the cars have completed their installation lap except for the 2 Ferrari's. 

2 min: The cars are back in the pits after the installation lap. 

1 min: Montoya, Verstappen and Alesi were the first to go out on the track. Expect both Frentzen and Alesi to cover the most number of laps as they both have covered a very limited number of laps in their new cars!

Session underway and the Formula 1 cars go out on their installation lap. 

Jean Alesi takes the seat vacated by Heinz Harald Frentzen at Jordan while Frentzen takes his place at Prost. This could be the break that Alesi needed. Session starting in 2 minutes

After a 3 week break, the Formula 1 cars are back in action here at the Hungaroring where Michael Schumacher can clinch the title if he wins on Sunday. Session starting in 5 minutes
