39 min: Rubens Barrichello takes 4th place still in the 1:15's though.

38 min: Giancarlo Fisichella stops his car on the side of the track. Yet another mechanical problem.

37 min: Eddie Irvine loses a rear view mirror on the start finish straight!

35 min: Mika Hakkinen improves his time to 1:14.593 in 1st place. Pole time for last year was 1:14.111.

33 min: Only the Benettons are on the track now. Fisichella is in 17th while Button is 21st.

31 min: Both Williams' are pretty close to the top under half a second off the pace.

30 min: 15 minutes remaining in the session - Barrichello improves his time but remains in 8th. 0.7 seconds off the pace.

29 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Coulthard, Montoya, R Schumacher, Trulli, Frentzen, Barrichello, Heidfeld, Raikkonen.

27 min: Kimi Raikkonen moves into 9th while Ralf Schumacher improves to 5th.

26 min: Eddie Irvine moves into 10th place. Nick Heidfeld finally starts his first timed lap. 

25 min: Coulthard moves into 3rd with a time of 1:14.869.

24 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Montoya, Trulli, Coulthard, R Schumacher, Frentzen, Barrichello, Panis, Villeneuve.

23 min: David Coulthard moves into 5th on his first timed lap.

22 min: Mika Hakkinen retakes top spot by 0.001 second!. Jarno Trulli moves into 4th.

21 min: Michael Schumacher moves to the top with a time of 1:14.707. Panis moves into 6th followed by Villeneuve in 7th.

20 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, Montoya, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Barrichello, Irvine, Raikkonen, Burti, Alesi, Verstappen.

19 min: Mika Hakkinen takes top spot and becomes the first to lap under the 1:15 mark. His time is 1:14.813. Michael Schumacher is in 3rd just behind Montoya. 

18 min: Ralf Schumacher moves into 2nd with a time of 1:15.316. Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen are on track. 

17 min: Juan Pablo Montoya goes fastest with a time of 1:15.089. A stunning lap time just slightly slower than last years time. 

16 min: Top 6 - Irvine, Raikkonen, Burti, Fisichella, Bernoldi, Alonso. 

15 min: Eddie Irvine takes the top spot with a time of 1:16.524. Giancarlo Fisichella moves into 3rd with a time of 1:17.192. 

14 min: Luciano Burti goes fastest with a time of 1:16.832. Montoya is on track. 

13 min: Bernoldi improves but is still in 2nd place. 

12 min: Both Jaguar's go out as well as Fisichella and Alonso.

11 min: Jos Verstappen sets the first timed lap of the session with a time of 1:17.249. Enrique Bernoldi is close behind with a 1:17.399.

9 min: Both Arrows are out on their first flying laps. Tarso Marques joins them.

7 min: No one is on track at the moment. Everyone has returned to the pits.

5 min: Jenson Button goes out for his installation lap as well.

3 min: The Ferrari and BAR cars exit as the rest of the field starts getting back to their pits.

2 min: Most cars are out except for the 2 Ferrari's, the 2 BAR's and Jenson Button.

There were several off track incidents at the Brazilian GP that appear to cloud the event. Bobby Rahal narrowly escaped being hit by a mounted camera over the Jaguar garage while a Minardi manager was robbed at gun point. Session starts in 3 minutes.

David Coulthard set the fastest time yesterday over a second ahead of 2nd placed Jarno Trulli. It is expected that he was running on low fuel. That will become clear during qualifying today. Session starts in 8 minutes.
