Lap 60: The lead is now 0.7 seconds. It keeps changing as they are going through traffic. Just lapped Verstappen. 

Lap 59: Michael Schumacher is catching the two now, the gap is down to under 3.9 seconds.

Lap 49: Ferrari's tactic didn't seem to work as Michael Schumacher went into the gravel on his out-lap and lost a bit of time. Coulthard sets the fastest lap of the race. A 1:10.843.

Lap 40: Michael Schumacher is now under a second behind Coulthard. Montoya is 2.5 seconds behind Raikkonen.

Lap 39: Montoya is trying to catch Raikkonen. He is now under 3 seconds behind.

Lap 38: Pedro de la Rosa pits, he was in 11th place.

Lap 37: Montoya takes Panis for 5th.

Lap 36: The gap between Coulthard and Michael is now down to just 1 second. Pit stops about to start.

Lap 27: Tarso Marques retires. Michael attempts to pass Kimi but fails on this attempt.

Lap 26: Rubens Barrichello responds and sets the fastest lap of the race. Michael Schumacher catches Kimi Raikkonen. 

Lap 25: Michael Schumacher takes Panis and Coulthard is closing the gap to Barrichello. 

Lap 24: Michael Schumacher is still stuck behind Panis while Montoya is 5 seconds behind Michael.

Lap 22: The Arrows team are getting ready for Verstappen. He must be on a two stop strategy. 

Lap 21: Barrichello is increasing the gap to Verstappen. It is now 1.6 seconds. 

Lap 20: Order - Barrichello leads Verstappen by 1.4 seconds. Coulthard, Raikkonen, Panis, M Schumacher, Montoya, Irvine, Villeneuve and de la Rosa make the top 10. 

Lap 19: Retirements so far: Hakkinen, Heidfeld, Frentzen, R Schumacher, Trulli and Bernoldi.

Lap 18: Michael Schumacher is all over Panis.

Lap 17: What a race, so much overtaking and change in the order. Verstappen is still chasing Barrichello while Coulthard is easing a little.

Lap 16: Order - Barrichello leads Verstappen by 0.4 seconds. Coulthard, Raikkonen, Panis, M Schumacher, Montoya, Irvine, Villeneuve and de la Rosa make the top 10. Bernoldi retires.

Lap 15: Montoya and Michael touch and both lose out. Barrichello takes the lead from Verstappen and Coulthard.

Lap 14: Jarno Trulli is given the black flag and cannot continue to race. He was running at the back.

Lap 14: The Williams is struggling and Michael is trying to pass him without success.

Lap 13: Michael Schumacher is all over Montoya who is struggling to keep up. The top 6 are now very close.

Lap 12: Order - Montoya leading M Schumacher by 0.6 seconds followed by Barrichello, Verstappen, Coulthard, Raikkonen, Panis, Bernoldi, Irvine and de la Rosa.

Lap 11: Ralf Schumacher retires with brake problems.

Lap 10: Ralf Schumacher has a problem, he goes slow and then pits.

Lap 9: Villeneuve spins as he tries to overtake Irvine.

Lap 8: Montoya is is increasing his lead over Ralf, it is now 1.8 seconds.

Lap 7: Order - Montoya leading R Schumacher by 1.5 seconds followed by M Schumacher, Barrichello, Verstappen, Coulthard, Raikkonen, Panis, Irvine and Villeneuve.

Lap 6: Jos Verstappen possibly on a lighter fuel load is up in 5th!

Lap 5: Jarno Trulli goes off but recovers, he is running at the back.

Lap 4: Race is back on, Montoya leads from Ralf Schumacher.

Lap 3: Safety car in next lap after the cars have been cleared.

Lap 2: Safety car is still out as Hakkinen's car is stuck on the grid and so is Heidfeld's. Both Jordan's get away but are at the back of the pack.

Order on lap 1: Montoya, R Schumacher, M Schumacher, Barrichello, Coulthard, Irvine, Raikkonen, Villeneuve, Verstappen and Panis. Safety car out!

Race Start: Montoya takes the lead ahead of Ralf Schumacher. the 2 Jordan's have stalled and so did Hakkinen and Heidfeld!

The cars are now back on the grid waiting for the start signal.

Everyone gets away on the formation lap although Marques was slow.

The air temperature is now 19 degrees while the track temperature is 26. Formation lap in 2 minutes.

We have seen so many cars spinning off in practice so we'd expect a few during the race especially during the first few laps when the track is lacking grip. Formation lap in 5 minutes.

Even though McLaren have only managed to qualify in 7th and 8th, they were fastest in the warm-up. It will be interesting to see if they managed to get their set-up right and what kind of strategy will they adapt. Formation lap in 8 minutes.

Last year Michael Schumacher and Giancarlo Fisichella retired on the first corner after they were both hit by other cars. Mika Hakkinen went on to win the race from David Coulthard and Rubens Barrichello. All the cars are now on the grid. Formation lap in 10 minutes.

Interesting scenario for the start. Both Williams have done amazing starts this season and Michael Schumacher has not had a bad one this season either.  Formation lap in 12 minutes.

The weather today is perfect with an air temperature of 18 degrees. This should help Michelin to be on par with Bridgestone as they have complained of lack of grip in colder weather compared with Bridgestone. Formation lap in 15 minutes.
