5-Dec: Despite all the assurances from Orange Arrows that Jos Verstappen will be driving for the team in 2002, it appears that they have yet to decide on him. With the financial problems at Prost, Heinz Harald Frentzen could be available and Arrows appear to be interested. They may have to keep Enrique Bernoldi due to his links with Red Bull and so it will be a choice between Verstappen and Frentzen.
Minardi have earlier indicated that they are interested in Frentzen to replace Alonso who signed as a test driver for Renault but if Frentzen goes to Arrows they would possibly sign up Jos Verstappen.

4-Dec: The FIA announced the Provisional Entry List for 2002 and the Prost team appears on the list despite the team going into receivership. A couple of surprises on the list. Jos Verstappen was not listed as an Orange Arrows driver and Alex Yoong was not listed as a Minardi driver. In total, 6 drivers remain to be confirmed.

3-Dec: Mika Hakkinen has indicated that he is in no rush to decided what he will do in 2003 as he is now enjoying his time with his wife and son. He said "I am enjoying the time I can spend with my family and there is no rush to make a choice about coming back. My son started walking three days ago and every day it is exciting to watch him grow. I will not make a decision until the middle of next year at least."

30-Nov: The Orange Arrows team decided to continue their partnership with Bridgestone for next season and beyond. Team Principal Tom Walkinshaw said "Bridgestone is one of our longest-standing partners and the relationship we have with them is very strong as they are as committed to success as we are. In a time when tyre development is critical to performance it is great to have the continuity in one of our most successful partnerships."
Hiroshi Yasukawa from Bridgestone said "By agreeing to work with Bridgestone in 1996, prior to our entry into Formula One the following year, Arrows demonstrated its confidence in Bridgestone. We have not forgotten that, and as we look forward to starting our sixth season together we know we can count on the team's support and loyalty. 2002 marks the start of a new era for Arrows and Bridgestone will offer the best technical support that we can so the team can achieve the success it deserves."

Jaguar and Arrows will be running Cosworth engines in 2002 but they will be on running different tyres and that will make it an interesting fight between the two teams.

29-Nov: Jaguar Racing announced today the appointment of Guenther Steiner as the team's new Managing Director from next Monday. Steiner was the Director of Engineering at the Ford World Rally Team.
Jaguar Racing Team Principal Niki Lauda said: “Guenther will bring a new technical perspective to our team. His experience at the highest levels of Motorsport, together with his engineering skills, will add a new dimension to Jaguar Racing as we continue laying down the building blocks for the future. Guenther will be primarily responsible for managing the Milton Keynes factory and applying his skills to the technical side of our business. His proven credentials as a top-level engineer make him the ideal choice for this position. He will report to me as CEO of the Premier Performance Division and as Team Principal of Jaguar Racing."
Guenther Steiner said: “The move from Ford’s World Rally Team to Jaguar Racing offered the perfect transition for me. Jaguar Racing will soon enter its third year in Formula One and the team's on-track success is as much dependent on the organisational factors as it is on the technical element. I will focus on both of these areas. My goal will be to generate the same synergy throughout the Jaguar Racing squad that has taken Ford to the forefront of rallying.
I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with M-Sport and Ford. We've experienced great success with the Ford Focus rally car, developing it from a blank piece of paper into a world rally winner and I wish the team well for their campaign in the 2002 FIA World Rally Championship and beyond."

28-Nov: Heinz Harald Frentzen who drove for Jordan then Prost in 2001 has indicated that he is confident of a Formula 1 drive next year but is not sure with which team. He prefers to continue driving for Prost but has admitted visiting the Arrows factory and having talks with Paul Stoddart from Minardi. He said "I think there is hope for a new start for the Prost team. Now we have to wait and see what happens. My decision on whether I stay with the team will have no influence on the situation.
What happened with Arrows is that I visited their factory, that's all. Prost is the best option for me because I'm familiar with the team and the car, which means I know more or less what to expect. I know that Paul Stoddart is very determined and I gather they will have more money next year and there would be a possibility for me to help the team develop.
I assume I will still be driving a Formula One car in 2002. I just don't happen to know which one."

27-Nov: GPWC Holding BV is the name of the company setup by the car manufacturers for a rival series to Formula 1. FIAT boss Paolo Cantarella will head this company with Juergen Hubbert of DaimlerChrysler, Patrick Faure of Renault, Burkard Geoschel of BMW and Wolfgang Reitzle of Ford appointed members of the board.
A statement released by FIAT indicated that GPWC has met with the Formula 1 teams and has invited them to participate in the new series which is planned to start in 2008.
The Formula 1 teams are currently bound to the Concorde Agreement which expires at the end of 2007.
The statement also indicated that FIAT (which owns Ferrari), DaimlerChrysler (which owns Mercedes), Renault, BMW and Ford (which owns Jaguar) will switch to the new series and end their involvement in Formula 1 no later than 2008.

The Sauber team announced today that they will unveil their 2002 contender on the 25th of January. Nick Heidfeld and rookie Felipe Massa will be driving for the team next season.

24-Nov: British American Racing finally announced that they will be using Bridgestone rubber for the 2002 season and beyond. The team signed a 3-year agreement in 99 when they entered the sport and they were considering a switch to Michelin. Craig Pollock was delighted with the announcement and said "I am extremely pleased to make this announcement. Tyre development and technology are critical to the sport and I believe that the continuity of our partnership will yield the competitive advantage the team needs to fulfil its racing ambitions."
Hiroshi Yasukawa, Bridgestone’s Director of Motorsport said: "The last three years have been challenging for BAR but the team’s hard work paid off with two podium places in 2001. I am pleased that our collaboration is continuing. Bridgestone will be working closely with the team to help it achieve even greater success in 2002."

23-Nov: Visitors of NewsOnF1.com have voted for Best Driver, Best Team and Best Rookie for 2001 and as several of our readers pointed out, none of the categories were a serious contest this season yet over 2000 visitors did cast their vote.
In the Best Driver category, it was Michael Schumacher who won with over 55% of the vote. Juan Pablo Montoya was second with over 22% while the rest didn't really shape!
In the Best Team category, Ferrari won without question claiming over 70% of the votes with Williams in second with just over 15% of the vote. Again the rest didn't really shape!
In the Best Rookie category, there was overwhelming support for Juan Pablo Montoya who claimed over 55% of the vote while Kimi Raikkonen managed over 26%. Fernando Alonso came in 3rd with 10% of the vote. The other Rookies didn't receive many votes.
Congratulations to the winners and we hope to expand on the categories next season.

22-Nov: Alain Prost made a statement following the news that his team Prost GP was placed into receivership. He vowed to continue on and prepare for the 2002 season and said "It's not over. Contrary to what I have read, we are not throwing in the towel. We'll keep fighting for our adventure to continue. There was a court ruling this morning and the administrator's task will be to help me in my attempt to find solutions in the near future.
What I'm looking for is to put in place a plan for our continuation. It is out of the question to go bankrupt. We intend to freeze our debts and not use a penny from the sponsors or from television rights to repay them."
Prost indicated that his star driver Heinz Harald Frentzen wants to stay and said "He wants to stay and we want to keep him but we must give him guarantees. We hope to do this as quickly as possible
."

22-Nov: Following months of speculation over the financial situation at Prost GP, the team has gone into receivership.
A French court in Versailles has placed Prost Grand Prix into receivership and appointed Judge Franck Michel as the team's administrator who will monitor the team for a 6 month period.
It is unclear what the future may bring for the team now, however there is speculation that a number of parties are interested in taking buying the team now that is has gone into receivership.
Alain Prost is expected to make a statement later today.

Prost has had a far more impressive record as a driver rather than a team owner. As a driver he won 4 World Titles and 51 Grands Prix while as a team owner he never won a race with a best result of 2nd twice at Spain '97 with Olivier Panis and Europe '99 with Jarno Trulli. Prost entered Formula 1 in 1997 after buying the Ligier team. The team's best season was their debut season where they finished 6th with 21 points. Their worst year was 2000 when they failed to score any points and were classified last in the championship.
