Download the NewsOnF1.com | 5-Sep: Luca Badoer shook down the 4 Ferraris taking part in the Italian Grand Prix this weekend. He completed a total of 19 laps (12 on the short track) with a best time of 1:05.327. He also carried out a number of pit stop practices. 5-Sep: Formula 1 team bosses and the FIA are set to continue to continue discussions at Monza regarding possible future changes. The meeting they had in London on the 30th of August didn't lead to firm decisions. The issues being discussed include:
Barry Green has confirmed discussing a possible senior role at BAR with BAT (British American Tobacco), the majority shareholder of BAR. He said "All I can say is, I haven't just got involved. I have been involved with BAT for a long time and I won't deny there have been some discussions." However he indicated that it is too early to speculate and said "At this point, I haven't done a lot of thinking on it. I've not been to BAR. I haven't seen the facility. A lot of due diligence is required from BAR and from me before anything happens." Barry is rumoured to be replacing Craig Pollock as the Managing Director at BAR. Barry Green has good links with Jacques Villeneuve who won the CART championship with Team Kool Green in 1995. 4-Sep: "Should Friday practice be scrapped ?". The Benetton Formula 1 team have announced that Giancarlo Fisichella will
be fit to race at the Italian Grand Prix next Sunday following his high speed crash during
testing at the Monza track last Wednesday the 30th of August. 2-Sep:
Michael Schumacher is confident that he can turn things around and that the race
for the title is far from over when he said "The title is a long way from being lost,
It will only be over once there is no longer any mathematical chance. Until then I will
give it everything. I will turn things around, you just wait and see." Ferrari's boss Luca Montezemolo shares the same view when he said "There are four races to go and Ferrari are not in any panic, the championship is not over. I agree with Mr. Agnelli that McLaren now have a 60 per cent chance of winning but I prefer what Michael says, that he has a 90 percent chance." The real test will be at Monza on the 10th of September. 1-Sep:
Ralf Schumacher was the fastest man on the track on the final day of testing at
Monza just ahead of Rubens Barrichello followed by Jarno Trulli in 3rd. 13 drivers and 9 Formula 1 teams were present today. Minardi and BAR have concluded their tests yesterday. A few teams extended their stay for a 4th day due to the wet conditions on Thursday. The track condition was dry throughout the day. Pedro de la Rosa spun and crashed heavily at the second chicane during the afternoon session. The car suffered significant damage but Pedro de la Rosa was fine. Click here for the timed results 1-Sep: At the meeting between the Formula 1 team bosses and the FIA bosses, Max Mosley confronted the teams about the reports claiming that a number of teams want him removed from the presidency of the FIA however he received assurances that no team is actively seeking his removal. Bernie Ecclestone did comment that a number of teams felt that Mosley interferes in the sports and said "I know some of them are complaining that Max is interfering in things that they say have nothing to do with him. But the Formula 1 teams don't have any votes in the election of the president of the FIA. It's up to the 120-odd countries that will vote whether they want Max as president or not." It is unclear yet whether Mosley will seek another 5 year term for the FIA presidency next year when his current term expires. 31-Aug:
Jacques Villeneuve was the fastest man on the track today and set a time of
1:26.296 over half a second ahead of David Coulthard and Heinz Harald Frentzen. 18 drivers and all the Formula 1 teams were present today at Monza in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix on the 10th of September. The session was interrupted twice by heavy rains in the
morning and the afternoon which brought and early end to the day. This gave the teams only
a limited dry track time affecting their planned program. Click here for the timed results 31-Aug:
Dario Franchitti has re-signed with Team Kool Green ruling him out of a possible
drive with Jaguar next year. Franchitti tested the Jaguar Formula 1 car earlier this year
and at one stage a deal was thought to have been as good as done. Rumours also linked
Franchitti with BAR but that failed to materialise as Olivier Panis took the second seat
alongside Jacques Villeneuve. The latest in driver and team movements In another development, Team Kool Green owner Barry Green has been rumoured to be replacing Craig Pollock as the Managing Director at BAR. Barry Green has good links with Jacques Villeneuve who won the CART championship with Team Kool Green in 1995. British American Tobacco (BAT) are also the major sponsors of both teams. 30-Aug:
Gianni Agnelli the Honorary President of FIAT was present at the Monza test
session today in a show of support for the Ferrari team. He said "The race isn’t
over yet, there is still quite a way to go. It’s moments like this that sort the men
from the boys, and we have those men." 30-Aug:
David Coulthard was the fastest man on the track today and set a time of 1:26.080
ahead of teammate Mika Hakkinen and Heinz Harald Frentzen. 19 drivers and all the Formula 1 teams were present on the 2nd day of testing at Monza in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix on the 10th of September. Giancarlo Fisichella had a big crash at the Ascari corner
due to brake failure. The car was very badly damaged but Fisichella climbed out of the car
unaided. He suffered minor bruises to his knees and elbows and was taken to the medical
center for checks. Benetton continued testing with one car with Alexander Wurz. It is interesting to note that drivers who miss the first chicane could actually set a better time although the time is disallowed. This will be interesting during the race as the race stewards can impose a stop-go penalty if a driver misses a chicane resulting in an advantage. It will be interesting to see how this will be applied as the start of the race! It is expected that both the FIA president Max Mosley and vice-president Bernie Ecclestone will attend in addition to the Formula 1 team bosses. The possible changes to be discussed include:

14 drivers and all the Formula 1 teams were present on the first day of testing at Monza
in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix on the 10th of September. Luca Badoer
(Ferrari test driver) was the fastest man on the track with a time of 1:26.324 ahead of
David Coulthard and Giancarlo Fisichella. The test started under damp conditions but the cars formed a dry line quickly. The teams are concentrating on race setup for this low downforce circuit and also getting used to the modified first chicane that has caused so many first lap accidents in the past. Both the McLaren drivers present (Coulthard and Panis) experienced engine problems as they test a new evolution of the Mercedes engine. Jos Verstappen also suffered an engine failure. The fastest time set here this year is by Jenson Button
